The ZF310/ZF320 manual transmissions that come in E36 328i, M3, and E39 328i are known to wear out and form a "reverse" and "5th gear" lean. If you shifter does not center up properly and has a lot of slop this is most likely your issue. BMW has a service bulletin to replace the detents in your transmission. To accomplish this, we are now offering the detent service tool kit. You will need these drifts to install the new parts in your transmission.
